TOWN UNION MEETING OF 6TH FEBRUARY 2011

TOWN UNION MEETING OF 6TH FEBRUARY 2011
This meeting was held at Amankwo Imezi Primary School

The meeting started at about 1:20pm. The secretary read the past minutes of General assembly meeting held 27th Dec 2010. The only correction made was that the V.P said that the money realized during the launching of the website was borrowed to offset the expenses incurred that day. He said that what ever money realized must be used for the project it was meant for. After that, motion for adoption was moved by Livinus Emehelu seconded by Eva Njegbu.

The president gave an opening remarks, welcomed everybody to the New Year. He commended all the members who have been putting in their resources (both time and money) to ensure that the flag of the town union keep flying. He assured members that every body’s effort in this town Union will be recognized at the appropriate time, as those who are not showing interest today will definitely come to gatecrash when the things will take shape.
The president also informed the house that he stepped down for Chief Ogbuefi Ozormgbachi who is now using the ticket of P.D.P to contest for the Federal House of Assembly, Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, during the April, 2011 Election. He thanked everybody for the support given to him and said we should continue to support the P.D.P candidates in Enugu state and the Federation.

CONSTITUTION.
The chairman of the constitution draft committee, Engr. Ejike Anigbo, said the committee has concluded the assignment. The chairman said the committee consulted very widely, starting from the Nigerian Constitution and the constitution of other communities and groups before making the first draft which was distributed to people.
He thanked his fellow members of the committee, especially, the committee secretary Engr. Silas Anonde and the vice president Mr. Innocent Okechukwu, who never missed one day out of the several meetings, held by the committee. He commended the effort of our brothers, Amankwo Oghe Development Unions, in Lagos and Abuja and Capt. P. C Ozoagu, These people after receiving our first draft took time to go through the entire constitution and made several correction/amendment and even added their own inputs.
He also appreciated contributions and supports by several other individuals and groups both members and non members of the Town union. He said that all these ideas were harnessed by the committee to arrive at the final copy of the constitution

After his speech, there was a little debate on whether the constitution will be signed immediately. The house resolved to sign the constitution immediately. All the wards that their representatives were at the meeting signed the constitution and the president of the town union signed. Hence our great community now have a constitution.

Neighbourhood watch. The secretary should write all wards and Igwe in council on the approval of N50 levy for every taxable adult in Amankwo, as agreed by the general assembly meeting. He should equally write the appeal letters for the support of the Launching for the website.

The councilor Hon. Festus Magbo, thanked everybody in the community for their effort and sacrifice for coming out/coming home to register during the last voter’s registration exercise.
The councilor told the house that some people are attacking his government and equally doing everything possible to ensure that this Town union does not stand. He mentioned names like, Johnson Oguanya, Hon. Gef Ozor and Hon. Fide Magbo. He said that they are now in Enugu holding another meeting with some other members of this town union while the town union meeting is going on here.

Mr. Peter Madu, in response to Hon. Festus Magbo’s complain, said we should not relent because of what other people are doing. Said even if it is only the constitution that has been approved today, that we have achieved a lot. That Amankwo have never had such a viable and achieving town union in the past.

The President said we should proceed to Igwe’s palace to pay homage and inform him that we have resumed sitting for the year.

Motion for adjournment was moved by John Onwuama seconded by Festus Magbo. Closing prayer said by Law Offor at about 3.00pm
