TOWN UNION MEETING OF 4TH SEPTEMBER 2011
The meeting was held at Amankwo Imezi Primary School, hall
The meeting started with an opening prayer said by Mr. Igbonekwu at about 12:20pm.
The Vice President, who was holding brief for the arrival of the president general, addressed the members thanking them for coming on time for today’s meeting and requesting that we should improve so that we could be starting our meetings exactly by 12:00noon according to our constitution. The president arrived shortly after his address.
The last minute of the August 2011 meeting was read by the secretary. Motion for adoption was moved by Mr. Kenneth Aliazor seconded by Mr. Offor Lawrence. The secretary informed members that the decision to hold today’s meeting at Amankwo Imezi was for the convenient of the Amankwo Imezi women organization that were invited to attend the meeting.
The president General in his addressed to the house apologized for being absent from the past two or three meetings. Said he traveled out of the state. He thanked every body especially the executives for their effort in maintaining the house while he was away. Said everybody should work together towards the progress of the community.
Invitation to women organization.
The secretary said the invitation letter was written and circulated to the women. He read the letter to the house. Members present said their opinion on how best to make the women hold their election free and fair. However Mr. John Onwuama queried why the town union intruded into the women election since he is not aware of any letter written by the women requesting for our assistance. In response to the question, the Secretary informed him that the leadership of the town union has received much complains from the women that warranted our intervention.
The town union president welcomed the women and directed his vice to intimate the women on the invitation, after they have introduced themselves. The Vice president Mr. Innocent Okechukwu explained to the women why we invited them, demanded to know from them whether their proposed election was held.
Mrs Adaeze Ajigbuogu said the election was held. The sec Mrs. Eunice Oguanya also confirmed that the election was held. She said the election was held on 2nd day (i.e Tuesday) of the August meeting and was announced to the general house on the 3rd day being Wednesday.
Mrs. Oguanya explained that the mode of their election has been that the different zones that made up the general house will present candidates for the elective positions, according to the positions that were zoned to them. She said it was those that were selected by the zones on Tuesday that was announced to be the new executives. The town union secretary, Engr. Silas Anonde, wanted to know from the women how they handle the issue of any selected candidate or candidates that are not accepted by the general house. Mrs. Oguanya maintained that the general house has no other option than to accept all the selected people. She continued to ague that Mrs. Obiogbolu, whose selection was rejected by the general house, is the only capable person from Umunechi that selected her and therefore can not be changed. She added that there are other people who have held offices that were selected by their zones.
The president of the woman organization, Mrs. Ngozi Ozoagu, on the other hand said the election was not held. She said that the woman agreed that those who have stayed 8years or more should step down. When the selection made by the home branch, selecting Mrs. Sylvia Obiogbolu who has been the financial Secretary for the past 16 years, violates the agreed condition, the house did not accept her as the President. She said that when the house was trying to leave without a conclusive election, she made an attempt to reconvene them the following Monday. But the Monday meeting did not hold. She equally said that Mrs. Oguanya took the case to the Rev Father of our parish, who pleaded for the women to accept Mrs. Obiogbolu for peace to reign but the women present did not accept. Mrs. Emehele and Mrs. Onuegbe in their speech upheld what the woman leader said.
Chief Francis Ozoagu wanted to know if the members of the women organization are only the Catholic Church members or the entire Amankwo women. The women leader Mrs. Ngozi Ozoagu said the meeting started from the Catholic Church but later involved every woman in Amankwo irrespective of religion.
The town union president General in his ruling said it is very obvious from what happened at the purported election, that there was no credible election. He told Mrs. Oguanya that it was wrong to take the women to the parish before the women could sort their problem. The P.G said that it can not be true that there is any component unit in Amankwo that has only one person that is capable of holding any position, referring to Mrs. Oguanya’s claim that only Mrs. Obiogbolu, who was rejected by the women, is capable from Umuenechi. He told the women to go back and organize a credible election.
The following people were appointed to deliver our decision to the Rev. Father. Mr. Elias Ogbuchi, Mr. Kenneth Aliozo, Chief Francis Ozoagu.
Neighbourhood
The Executives of the Neighbouhood watch, lead by their chairman Mr. Linus Igweuagu parented the following complains to the town union.
1. First is to thank the town union for helping them to collect their I.D card from Igwe.
2. That youths are collecting N500 to allow tippers to excavate sand along the Amankwo Road. The money was previously being collected by the neibourhood but the Igwe in council allowed the present order.
3. Security breakdown. Incessant robbery in Amankwo. He said that they need authority from the town union so that they can be assured that they have back up. He said it will encourage them to work harder
4. That they need police intervention to tackle a notorious criminal gang that has been terrorizing the entire community.
The neibourhood demanded a copy of the Amankwo constitution
The P.G told the neibourhood to start work immediately, that we have given them full authority. He told them that they have access to the D.P.O Ezeagu for the police assistant, which does not require the town union to do anything. He asked the already appointed committee on neighbourhood to hasten up and come up with their report.
On the issue of those who are collecting money from the tippers, the Vice president said they are not of any recognized group in Amankwo but just a group of bad boys. He said that the government bans any sort of excavation of sand on the road, that sands can only be cleared, when it becomes an impediment. He told the neighbourhood watch to guard against the boys illegal action and make sure they did not continue with that.
Information
The councilor Hon. Festus Magbo, informed the members through the P.R.O that the mothers burial will take place on 30th sept 2011 and invited the town union members.
