TOWN UNION MEETING OF FEBRUARY 2012

AMANKWO OGHE TOWN UNION MEETING OF 5TH FEBRUARY 2012
The meeting was held at Amankwo Ndiagu primary school hall

THERE WAS A MINUTE SILENT FOR LATE MRS. NGOZI OZOAGU BEFORE THE MEETING STARTED
(She was the Amankwo Imezi Oghe General Chair lady before her demise)

The meting started at about 1.20pm with an opening prayer said by Mr. Livinus Emehelu. The minutes of the general assembly meeting of 1st January 2012 and that of the town Union of November 6th 2011 was read by the secretary. The only correction made on the minutes November was that Sir Johnson Oguanya was appointed patron not chairman by the Amankwo Imezi Neighbourhood watch. Hon. Festus Magbo and Mr. Charley Igboli moved motion for adoption of the minute of January 1st 2012, while motion for adoption of minutes of 6th November 2011 was moved by Kenneth Aliozor and Offor Lawrence.

Members were delighted on the arrival of The Town Union President, Mr. Nwabueze Chijioke, who has not been around for some months now. Mr. Chijioke also expressed his joy and thanked all the members especially the executives for keeping the town union afloat while he was away. He explained that he is now working at Abuja in the office of the Deputy Senate President and that was why he was unable to attend some meetings though he is always in touch with his other executive members in the day to day running of the town union.

The Igwe in council:
The P.G suggested that we need fresh blood in the Igwe in council so that our Igwe cabinet will be invigorated and work towards the progress of our beloved community. Said some wards no longer have representatives and even most of those who are there presently are old and weak, therefore the house need some fresh blood. The Vice President, Mr. Innocent Okechukwu, used that opportunity to inform the house that the Igwe some time last year gave him some note of warning on the activities of the town union. According to V.P Igwe in his adage told him that the new clean pot should ask the old black pot why it is black. Implying that the present regime of the town union should find out while the past ones failed. Mr. Charles Igboli said that Igwe’s second in command Chief Cletus Magbo has equally told him similar thing. In his own case Mr. Charles said that Chief Cletus Magbo told him to go and find his father’s old cloth and start wearing it.
The town union using the authority conferred on it by section 5.3.1c of Amankwo Oghe Constitution agreed that the 15 traditional wards in Amankwo should have a new chief to be installed before the end of 2012. The selection process shall be that the wards present two candidates each to be screened by the town union and select one candidate each from the wards. The Igwe cabinet will be given the privilege to do the selection. The secretary is to write and inform the Igwe and his cabinet our decision pointing out that the selection should be done early enough to enable the screening process to be done and those selected informed by June this year to give them time for preparation.

Controversial election of Amankwo Imezi women August meeting:
Mr. Charles Igboli reported that the election that was scheduled to hold on 31 December 2011did not hold because the women did not turn out for the election, as Umuenechi people directed their women not to turn out for the election. He further informed us that Umuenechi component insisted that only Mrs. Sylvia Obiogbolu, who was rejected by more than 90% of the women during the cancelled election held in August 2011, is fit for the charlady position as against the rulings of both the parish priest and the Town union.

It was ruled that the 3 key persons Mrs. Sylvia Obigbolu, Mrs. Eunice Oguanya and Mrs Adaeze Ojigbuogu, who has conspired to impose Mrs. Obiogbolu on the women as against their wish, telling lies to the town union, refusing to heed to the instructions of the town union on the above matter and considering the fore goings that holds the entire community to a siege be banned indefinitely from participating in all the women activities in the community. The secretary is to do a letter on the above and copy the Bishop, the parish priest, Igwe and D.P.O Ezeagu.

The President General also informed the house that some people, in the name of consultative forum, have been paying visits to some prominent political office holders in the name Amankwo community. The persons visited include the new Local Government chairman and hon. Ogbuefi Ozomgbachi. He said there is need for the town union to dissociate itself from the group. It was ruled that the secretary should write a letter to the offices/persons visited to dissociate the town union.

On the issue of Sir Johnson Oguanya who was chosen by the Amankwo Imezi Neighbourhood as their patron, It was ruled that Sir Johnson is not worthy of such honour because of Johnson and his wife complexities in certain issues in the community. Also a letter will be issued to the Neighbourhood to inform the stand.

Supporting the Administrative work of the town union:
The President General said there is need to make a donation to support the Town union, to assist the secretary and the PRO in their administrative work. He opened the floor with a donation of Five Thousand Naira (N5000). No other person made a donation.

Motion for adjournment was moved by Mr. Kenneth Aliozor seconded by Mr. Charles Emboli. Before the meeting was adjourned it was agreed that we pay a visit to our royal father and brief him on the chieftaincy matter. The meeting was adjourned by a closing prayer said by Mr. Charles Igboli at about 3.10pm
