TOWN UNION GENERAL MEETING OF 5TH JUNE 2011
THE MEETIN WAS HELD AT AMANKWO IMEZI PRIMARY SCHOOL HALL

The meeting started at about 2.05pm with an opening prayer said by Mr. Livinus Emehelu. The past minute of Easter Monday meeting was read by the secretary. The correction made in the minutes was that the treasurer Mr. Charles Igboli said the people should not repeat themselves at the meeting discussions.

The town union president was unavoidable absent. He traveled to Abuja. The meeting was presided over by the vice president Mr. Innocent Okechukwu.

Constitution and Registration:
For the interest of those who were not at the last meeting, the secretatary Engr. Silas Anonde, presented a copy of the approved constitution of Amankwo Oghe and the certificate of registration at the local government level.the Vice president noted that it was specifically written in the certificate the town union is empowered to use it’s constitution to govern his people. He therefore made it very clear to members that the provisions of the constitution will begin to take effect from the next meeting, especially where it concern lateness and absentees. The v.p advised members who do not have copy of the approved constitution to get a copy from the secretary for their own interest as ignorant of the law is no excuse. The house called on the executives to make effort to register the constitution at the state level also.

Parish priest’s appeal for ordination support.
A member of the ordination committee Mr. Charles Igboli explained further on the issue of ordination and said it will be good that the town union made contribution to support the ordination, no mater how small, since the Parish Priest came personally to our meeting to appeal for support. However, nothing could be done as no body donated money for the ordination. The secretary in support of Mr. Charles Igboli said the Parish Priest equally called him and requested for circulation of the ordination appeal request to our people. The secretary said he sent out bulk massage titled “ordination” to more than 80 personalities in Amankwo Oghe, which he has their contact. Some members of the Town union confirmed receiving the massage.

Opening of Town Union Account
The Treasurer informed the town that an account have been opened with Union Bank of Nigeria Plc for the town union. The signatories to the account are the town union president as the chief and the treasurer and the secretary. The chief and the secretary or treasurer can withdraw. Any body can pay in. the account was opened with the sum of twenty seven thousand naira (N27, 000) while an expenses of Two thousand Naira was made (N2, 000). It was also noted that Mr. Charles Okwesili has made deposit of Ten thousand Naira (N10, 000) into the account to redeem his pledge at the last meeting Easter Monday hosted by Sir, Basil Offor. Also Sir Basil Offor has made deposit of (N20, 000) to redeem his own pledge. Another issue concerning the account is that the alert is being sent to the treasurer making it difficult for the secretary to know who deposited money, so as to send appreciation to the donors. On that issue it was ruled that the bank should be sending alert to the three signatories of the account and charge the cost to the account. The treasurer promised to see the president for them to approach the bank for the changes.
Beefing up Igwe’s cabinet
The secretary, Engr. Silas Anonde, reminded the house that it was agreed at the last general meeting that the Igwe’s cabinet should be invigorated by young educated members. That each ward should nominate a candidate to join those who are already there.

Some members objected to the idea saying that those who are already in the cabinet will not be happy to see that they are being replaced by the learned ones from their ward. Some people suggested given the body another name, other suggestions include discussing it at the joint meeting with the igwe in council. The matter was postponed till the next meeting.

Funding of the Neidgbourhood watch
Engr. Silas Anonde said that our brothers in the United States of America sent a massage across, through Engr. Anigbo, demanding to what it will cost to fund the neighbourhood watch for a specified period so as to enable them know how they can assist. The executives are tasked to find out the adequate number and how much they are being paid. Before the next meeting.

Fertilizer from the State government
The Vice President Mr. Innocent Okechukwu explained how our own share f the fertilizer was brought home through the help of the honourable councilor Mr. Festus Magbo. He said that 230 bags were given to our ward which was shared into two between Amankwo and Akama and that our own was brought home same day. The fertilizers were packed at chief Innocent Madueke’s house at Amankwo Etiti. He further said that each ward is to pay One Thousand Two Hundred Naira (N1200) to carry their 7 bags of the fertilizer. The money is to offset the transportation cost from the local government headquarter and other logistics. The wards that are reprinted should immediately go with the vice President to collect the fertilizers. All the wards are adviced to hasten up to caollect their fertilizers as the town Union is not paying for the packing space provided by Chief Innocent.

The Vice President at his closing remarks reminded members that the provisions of the constitution will take effect from the next meeting.
