MINUTES OF TOWN UNION MEETING OF 07/08/2011

AMANKWO OGHE TOWN UNION MEETING
HELD AT AMANKWO IMEZI PRIMARY SCHOOL ON 7TH AUGUST 2011

The meeting of Amankwo Oghe town union held on the 7th August at Amankwo Imezi Primary school. The meeting started at 2.10pm with an opening prayer said by Mr.livinus Emehelu.

Because of the absence of the secretary, we started the day’s agenda by collecting the five hundred naira (N500) for wards constitution. After that Mr. Ken Aliozor informed members present, that we should start any issue we can remember off head while waiting for the secretary. Another issue brought out was a latter brought by Chief Felix Obieze informing the house that they had land dispute with Umuesim. The chief is from Umunonihe. He said that this case has been for a long period of time, they thought it has been resolved but out of a sudden they, Umuesim, called police and arrested their people. The D.P.O. in charge of Ezeagu then told them to resolve that matter within 3 weeks, this then ignited them to report the matter to town union. Mr. Charles Igboeli then asked the chief whether their case has been treated or handled by any person, he said that the church has done that. Chief Obueze was adviced to take the matter to the Igwe in council first, if the two chiefs concerned failed to settle the matter. They are free to come back to the town union, if they are not satisfied by the decision of Igwe in council. As for police we will handle their problem. The town union has instructed both sides never to call police any longer. The secretary then came in and pleaded for being late. He said he traveled and was coming back from a journey.

On his arrival the secretary brought out the constitution to be shared to all the wards that have paid their N500. All the wards that have paid collected their own. The remaining copies was handed over to the vice president.

Neighborhood watch.
A committee on Neighbourhood watch was set up
Their task include to find out the financial requirements of the Neighbourhood watch so as to enable the town union know exactly what we should be requesting from our brothers who volunteered to assist. Members of the committee are: -

1. Innocent Okechukwu

2. Moses Igbonekwu

3. Emmanuel Udemadu
4. Simeon Ebunuoha

Penalty for absentees
The secretary Engr. Silas Anonde said he gave all the ward chiefs present copies the absentee letters, though the chiefs objected the idea of tasking them for the town union absentees. They advised that the town union should device other means of penalizing their defaulting members rather than shifting it to the chiefs. The V.P told the house that those who owe will eventually even if they did not pay now. He told the house that adequate record of such penalties is being maintained. Any ward that owes the town union must pay to the last kobo before they can get any benefit from the town union.

School
The secretary explained how he attended the Igwe in council meeting with Mr. Charles Igboli. He said the Igwe in council was happy on the explanation given to them on how the town union wants to handle the issue of poor enrolment in our government schools. Also he used the opportunity to inform the house that the P.T.A chairman, chief Ogwudile, said that a private teacher who was engaged to help in teaching in the primary school at Amankwo Imezi was owed 3 months salary. The town union ruled that those who employed the teacher should continue to maintain the teacher for now. However, the town union saw the need to set up a committee on the school issue. It was agreed that the executives should meet and set up all the necessary committees. The secretary equally used the opportunity to inform the house that he used the opportunity of the meeting to hand over a certified through copy of the constitution to H.R.H Igwe C.C Obueke and his cabinet members.

Women meeting
Those who went to meet with the women during the August meeting explained how they discussed with them. On the women election, it was discovered that their proposed election on last Wednesday did not hold. That it was scheduled till Monday. It was also discovered that the election did not hold because what was agreed by the women, that those who have stayed up to 8 years in the office should not contest again, was not adhered to by Umuenechi people who nominated a woman that has stayed 16 years in the office to contest for president. On that note the town union decided to issue a letter to the women directing them to maintain what they have agreed previously. When it happened that the women did not meet again on the scheduled Monday for the election, the town union decided to write and invite all the executives of the women group to join the town union at their next September meeting. The secretary is to write to their president.
