TOWN UNION MEETING OF 6TH NOVEMBER 2011
THE MEETING WAS HELD AT AMANKWO IMEZI PRIMARY SCHOOL HALL
Meeting started by 12:56pm with an opening prayer said by Ogbuchi Elias.
The secretary read the past minutes of September 2011. He explained that the October meeting did not hold because members present did not form a quorum as required by the constitution. Motion for adoption was moved by Lawrence Offor and seconded by Eva Ogwu.
The President General, Nwabueze Chijioke, was unavoidable absent; he traveled out of the state. The VP who is officiating in today’s meeting thanked every body present. He said we have to adhere strictly to the constitution. On the issue of those who have been absent for a very long time, he said the relevant section of the constitution shall be used to deal with their offence.
Women organization
Those who were sent to the Rev. Father to convey the decision of the town union, on the women’s controversial election, said the Rev. Father did not give them the required attention. However, the executives of the town union followed up the issue after the September meeting. Finally, the Rev. Father has agreed with the town union that the elections fall short of standard and therefore remained cancelled as was earlier pronounced by the town union during the September meeting.
The Rev. Father and the town union jointly agreed that another election will be held on 31st December 2011. As regards to the zoning of chairlady to Umunechi, it was agreed that Umuenechi should nominate 4 candidates, including Mrs. Sylvia Obiogbolu, who was earlier presented, but was rejected by the majority of the women during the cancelled election. The entire women will chose their leader among the 4 women through voting. Election for the other positions will also be held. This decision will be communicated to the women through a letter that will be signed by the Rev. Father and the Town Union. The Rev, Father, the Town Union executives and the general public will be the observers of the election.
The town union resolved that if Umuenechi fails to nominate 4 persons for the chairlady, the charlady’s position will be thrown open to the general house.
NEIGHBORHOOD
The Vice president, Mr. Innocent Okechukwu, informed the house that Sir, Johnson Oguanya was appointed by the neighborhood watch as their chairman. He also reported that those who do excavate the sand on the road has been harassed and stopped. He told us that one of such tippers was arrested by a combined team of the neighbourhood and the police. Since then, no other person was seen.
On the issue of the requirements for the up keep of the neighborhood watch, the Vice President said the neighborhood watch has failed to present their need. On that issue the committee on the neighborhood watch was asked to find out the requirement and report to the house.
CONDOLENCE VISIT TO OUR MEMBERS.
The Secretary Engr. Anonde said that the town union attended the burial ceremony of Capt. P. C Ozoagu’ mother; and that of Hon. Festus Magbo’s mother. He said there was very poor turn out. Only very few people paid their levy of 500 naira for each. Mr. Elias Ogbuchi said that he attended both at the scheduled time but members did not turn out on time. The V.P encouraged everybody to make sacrifice to attend such burial. The Hon. Councilor suggested that our time for such should be around 4pm to help those who came from far. He equally said we should rule out levy if it is the problem. The V.P ruled that it not compulsory on anybody since it is not in our constitution. He said those who come for such can make a donation and that whatever amount collected should be used to attend. Ibe Lawson suggested that we make it a law so that we know exactly what we should be doing.
POOR ENROLMENT IN OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS:
The Secretary Engr. Silas Anonde said we need to invigorate our effort to see that the schools move forward, He said that we can achieve more if we articulate the need of the schools and present it to the bodies that are willing to assist like the youths. The Hon. in support of the Secretary said there are people who have interest in developing the schools but the problem is that there are people who swore that the town union and the community will never progress. He said that the town union must be prepared to fight their enemies for us to progress. He said a lot of people in the Igwe cabinet are not supposed to be there as they are only there to cause confusion. The V.P said there is need for us to tackle the problem being created by the Igwe in council on the issue of schools. He said they have been going round to inform members of this community that the town union has passed a law that any body that takes his child outside the government schools will pay a fine of 5000 naira. This is not what the town union said.
As the issue of the schools was going on many town union members including Mr. Kenneth Alizor queried the roofing of the primary school with ordinary zinc when others were roofed with Aluminum roofing sheets. They called for the town union investigation into the execution of that renovation project. Amankwo Imezi was expected to have the best as our wife Mrs. Oguanya was in charge of Education at the Local Government Level, when the project was executed.
On the issue of the Igwe’s cabinet, it was ruled that the first step in shaping them is to let them dissolve the executives and do election in accordance with the Amankwo Oghe 2011 constitution.
