TOWN UNION MEETING OF APRIL 9TH 2012

AMANKWO OGHE TOWN UNION MEETING OF APRIL 9TH 2012 (Easter Monday) The meeting started with an opening prayer said by Mr. Eva Ogwu at about 2.14pm. The minute of the past meeting was read by the secretary general. Motion for adoption was moved by Mr. Charles Igboli and seconded by Mr. Lawrence Offor. While waiting for the arrival of the President General, The Vice President Mr. Innocent Okechukwu officiated, thanking all the members who are present for attending the meeting, forgoing their other schedules as the meeting was on Easter Monday. He added that the meeting was going to be brief as many people were asking for permission to attend one crucial function or the other. Report on the Visit to H.R.H Igwe C.C Obueke After the year’s first meeting in February 2012, the entire members present visited our royal father. Mr. Livinus Emehelu in his report said that Igwe appeared not to be willing to accept our proposal on the installation of new chiefs. According to Igwe, he said the town union can not recommend people for him to make chiefs. That he can only make those he found worthy chiefs. He equally said we can recommend any body we wish to be chief, to start attending the cabinet meeting as chief on probation so. Such people according to Igwe may qualify to be chiefs if he finds them worthy. Igwe said that most of the present cabinet members are not submissive to him; therefore he can not add more problems to himself by making new chiefs he doesn’t trust. After much discussion on the installation of new chiefs, and considering consultations made on the above matter, it was ruled that it is the duty of the town union to initiate and screen people who are worthy to be made chiefs and present to Igwe for chieftaincy installation. On that note the secretary was asked to write to the ward chairmen/secretary of the 15 wards in Amankwo requesting them to nominate two candidates each and send to the town union for screening. Mr. Eva Ogwu said we should look into the warning signals being sent to our members from the cabinet members (specifically, Igwe C.C Obueke and his Onowu, Mr. Cletus Magbo). Women Election It was realized that the parish priest Rev. Father Chidi will be holding election for the women on 10th April being the next day. The town union viewed this as a disregard to our earlier order on the women not hold any activity for the next six months in respect of their demised leader, Late Mrs. Ngozi Ozoagu and the exclusion of three erring members. However, Mr. Innocent Okechukwu argued that the election they want hold is difference from Amankwo Women meeting, since their own is specifically for catholic women only. It was decided that the President General, Mr. Nwabueze Chijioke, Capt. Peter Ozogu, Ozor Innocent Okafor, Eva Ogwu and Mr. Charly Igboeli be sent to convey our stand on the issue to the Rev. Father. AOB The secretary said the Igwe in council invited the town union to their next meeting being 21st April 2012. Motion for adjoinment was moved by Mr. Law Offor and seconded by Mr. Livinus Emehelu. The meeting came to an end at about 3.59pm with a closing prayer said by Mr Livinus Emehelu.
