MINUTES OF THE TOWN UNION MEETING OF JULY 1ST 2012
MINUTES OF THE TOWN UNION MEETING OF JULY 1ST 2012
The meeting was held at Amankwo Ndiagu Primary School premises
The meeting started at about 1.40pm with an opening prayer said by Mr. Ogbuchi Elias.
The meeting was presided over by the vice prudent Mr. Innocent Okechukwu as the president general was not able to come home due to the nature of his job. The attendance was very poor. The Vice president in his opening remark thanked every body that attended and encouraged each and every one of us to continue the struggle for the good of the community.
The minutes of the 6th May 2012 and that of 16th June 2012 (the joint meeting with the Igwe in council) were read by the secretary. The only correction made in the first minute was that we agreed that every member should attend the Igwe in council meeting of 16th June 2012. Motion for adoption of the first minute was moved by Mr. Mike Aniagba, seconded by Mr. Fidelis Ozomba. Motion for the adoption of the second meeting was moved by Mr. Fidelis Igboekwu.
Report from the water committee.
The vice president on behalf of the committee gave a report of the finding on the bore-hole at Amankwo Imezi. He said that the bore-hole expert that came to check it confirmed that the bore-hole was actually blocked by something which, according to the expert, resulted in a complete damage of the bore-hole. Even when the V.P suggested to the expert that some people offered to rectify the problem by removing the blocked pipe, the expert said that it could be a wasteful venture as he has witnessed lots of such venture that yielded no fruit. A lot people made contributions on the way forward including suggesting that we should look for a contractor that will agree to collect his money only when the job is completed to avoid wasteful venture. However the secretary, Engr. Silas Anonde suggested that we should first report back to the State Government that is providing the water to us and start any other action based on the information we get from them. It was ruled that the water committee should meet with the state government and inform them that the bore-hole project has been abandoned.
Progress Report
The secretary briefed the house on the visit of the Imo River Basin Development Authority who, will come to grade our Road soon. He said that the Civil Engineer of the Imo Rivere Basin informed the community that the money approved for the project in the year’s budget will be able to do earth work on the road starting from Afor Oghe to Amankwo Ndiagu Primary School, including constructing gutter to some extent. According to the Engineer he said they measured 8km from Afor Oghe to the Primary School.
The secretary said that the sum of N5,000 was given to the vistors for fuel. Ozor Sandy Innocent Okafor provided 2,000 while he provided N3, 000 on behalf of the town union.
Payment of registrations and annual subvention fees by the wards.
Only Umueshim ward made part payment of 2,500. The V.P reminded everybody that it will not be possible for the town union to carry out most the tasks ahead without having money in their purse. He said that we were not even able to produce a receipt booklet to be issuing receipt to those who made payments. It was agreed that we should produce 10 booklets of receipts as soon as possible.
Tenure of the present house.
The V.P reminded everybody that the tenure of the present regime will elapse on 28th December 2012, and the need to start early to sensitize the wards and age grades on the process of nominating new candidates that will take over from us. It was agreed that the secretary should write to the wards and age grades informing them of the selection process of a new house and election of new executive officers of the town union. It was made very clear that any ward or age grade that owes the registration fee and annual subvention of 2012 will not be recognized in the formation of the new house.
Mr. Benhope Ukata suggested that this regime should endevour to start and complete a project before the end of their tenure. He reminded us that there was a time the P.G said we should come up with a design of the entrance gate to Amankwo Road at Afor Oghe, which nothing was done about it. On that comment that the present regime achieved nothing, the V.P informed him that the constitution of Amankwo Oghe was a very big achievement.
Motion for adjournment was moved by Benhope Ukata seconded by Ibe Lawson. Closing prayer was said by Benhope Ukata at about 3.30pm
